When pads worn down, a cheap, built-in “alarm system” generates squealing sound. This should be a little tab of metal begins to make contact with the rotor, creating a high-pitched squeal. This squealing sound is your signal that it is time to replace the brake pads. Don’t know why this metal clip is not found.

Changing Brake Pad for Toyota 4Runner.
1. don’t touch the 4 bolts if you are just replacing the brake pads. If you loosen the bolts, the brake fluid will start leaking.
2. takes out the two pins.
3. use a clamp to press the pad so that there is more gap.
4. after the maximum gap is created, take out the old pad and replace it with a new pad.
5. there are two pads (a pair) each side. The further away pad has the small metal to scratch so that you can hear the noise when the brake pad is worn out. The pad closer to you does not have this small metal.
